Tandem
The most popular of first time methods gives the first timer a TOTAL
introduction to skydiving. After about 30 minutes of
instruction, the student and instructor, gear up and are airlifted
to an altitude of 15,000 feet or more above the
ground.
Connected to each other, student and instructor exit the aircraft and
freefall for 70 seconds or more,
descending 4000 to 5000 feet and reaching speeds of at least
120 MPH, then deploy their main parachute, large enough to
support and land both of them safely. The student, assisted by
the instructor then flies the parachute to a safe landing, several
thousand feet below. This method is ideal for those who want
to experience the full sensation of a skydive, but aren't sure if
they want to do it alone or continue in the sport.
A video of the tandem skydive including scenes of the initial
training, aircraft boarding and ascent, the freefall, landing and
post dive interview can be requested and purchased as an additional option.
Static Line
This is an out dated method of skydive training. You will find that
there are no large, reputable skydiving operations practicing this old
non freefall method of instruction.
Accelerated Freefall (AFF)
Called Accelerated because it is an accelerated and much improved way
of learning to skydive as opposed to the old and out dated static line
method.
The initial training takes 4 to 6 hours of intense classroom and practical
application covering all necessary aspects of aircraft procedures, exit,
freefall and parachute deployment, flying and landing the parachute, and
handling emergency
situations.
When ready, the student, under direct supervision of two USPA certified AFF Jumpmasters, will gear up, be airlifted to the altitude of 15,000 feet, exit from the aircraft, the two AFF Jumpmasters will hold onto the student for the entire freefall portion of the skydive. the AFF jumpmasters will assist with freefall training maneuvers and deploying the main canopy at 5,000 feet.
After the main parachute is deployed , you, the student will fly
it to the landing area, and land it safely by
yourself. The descent is supervised via a ground to air communication
system used specifically to assist the student in his / her effort to make
a safe, on target landing.
For those interested in pursuing the sport beyond the first time, the
AFF training method offers a 7 level progressive learning
experience leading your ability to self jumpmaster and skydive for
as little as $6.00 per jump.
